The NMAC held the second Quality Workshop of 2012 at the Nagarkovil Halo Trust demining site on 7 February 2012. The workshop was managed by RMAO Jaffna and covered the technical topics of 3 metre raking drills, linear detector drills and HALO Trust’s mechanical drills. The workshop was well attended by staff from the NMAC (including staff from RMAO Jaffna and Vavuniya), UNDP, UNICEF, SLA-HDU, and international and national mine action operators. After demonstrations and a period of critical discussion on the drills, the workshop has made recommendations to the Director of the NMAC for possible changes of the National Standards.
Overall, the participants felt that this second quality workshop was of value to increase the expertise, efficiency and quality of mine action on Sri Lanka. The NMAC would like to thank HALO for hosting the workshop at their Nagarkovil task site, UNDP for facilitating the discussions and for financial support of the workshop, and to all the participants for bringing their individual and institutional knowledge into the discussions.
